There is significant research to indicate that established testing methods for toddlers from the age of 1 can begin the accurate assessment of the potential of autism in a child. Several studies conclude that early intervention with Applied Behavior Analysis before the age of 3 can have a dramatically positive impact in a child’s progress.
Early intervention at the preschool stage is equally valuable, as this is the time frame when many autism behaviors first become evident. Proactive involvement with children in the 3-to-5-year-old range can play a critical role in helping to prepare children for school and socialization.
Elementary school-aged children also benefit greatly from ABA therapy. Working closely with kids in this age range yields tangible results in areas such as learning skills, social interaction, coping strategies in stressful circumstances, and managing sensory difficulties. In some cases, specialized teaching methods during the school day can be utilized. This is also an age where Stepping Stones ABA therapists begin to be available for in-school engagement if the school is agreeable.
As children move through the stages of middle school, teenage years and young adulthood, the possibilities for growth can be significant. Emphasis on independence, employment training, and adult social behavior are among the areas of focus that can be addressed for many children with autism in these age ranges.
Extensive, individualized ABA therapy can make a profound life-changing difference for kids with autism, family members and those that love them. At Stepping Stones ABA, we experience this first-hand, every day … in the homes of our families.
At SSABA, we believe that increased diversity, equity, and inclusion drive value and positive outcomes for our clients, staff, and families and makes us better able to serve our community.
