ABA Therapy

ABA, Applied Behavior Analysis, is a therapy for children with autism. ABA Therapy takes an intensive and comprehensive approach by providing a one-on-one teaching program for its clients. ABA therapists use a systematic approach to teaching their children through the reinforcement.

ABA Therapy has extensive techniques and philosophies that all of its therapists are trained and certified to teach. The instructor begins with a variety of behavior analytic procedures that are individualized to the specific learner with its instructor. Since children within the autism spectrum vary greatly in their strengths and weaknesses, highly individualized programs are developed to meet the needs of each child. As part of the ABA Therapy system, the parents and other family members/caregivers also receive training so they can support learning and skill practice throughout the day. The therapists will create individualized plans for the learner to provide both planned and naturally occurring opportunities with positive reinforcement to practice and acquire skills in structured and unstructured situations. ABA Therapy places emphasis on making sure all of the therapy techniques and plans are fun for the child.

A number of completed studies have shown that ABA techniques can produce improvements in communication, social relationships, play, self-care, school, and employment. Today, ABA is widely recognized as a safe and effective treatment for autism. In recent years there has been a dramatic increase in the use of ABA to help people with autism live happy and productive lives. In particular, ABA principles and techniques can foster basic skills such as looking, listening and imitating, as well as complex skills such as reading, conversing and understanding another person’s perspective.
